Vale Professor Linda Cardozo

We were very saddened to hear of the sudden death of Professor Linda Cardozo yesterday while en route from London to Nice. Linda was a giant in our field. Born 15 September 1950 in London, she graduated from the Liverpool University Medical School in 1974. Linda developed a special interest in female urinary incontinence and trained under Professor Stuart Stanton at St George’s Hospital, London obtaining an MD in 1979, MRCOG in 1980, and FRCOG in 1991.

As Professor of Urogynaecology at King's College Hospital, London, Linda was prolific in the field of urogynaecology. She trained many urogynaecologists, including some from Australia and New Zealand, published more than 750 original papers, 25 books, and 130 book chapters. Linda was a frequent visitor to Australia, typically as the headline conference keynote speaker.

Among her many achievements, Linda was past president of IUGA and in 2014 was awarded an OBE for services to urogynaecology and women’s health.

The UGSA Advisory Board and membership extends our deepest sympathy to Linda’s husband Stuart, and her children Melissa, Juliette and Marius. We also extend our heartfelt condolences to our colleagues who worked closely with Linda.
